چکیده

The SLAC electron-positron colliding-beam project SPEAR was completed and stable colliding beams were achieved in April, 1972, after a construction period of approximately 20 months. Since that time, an active experimental high-energy physics program has begun in addition to a program of continued studies of accelerator physics. This paper discusses only the accelerator physics results as well as plans to increase the maximum operating energy of the ring. Some operating data have been presented previously. 1 This paper summarizes the operating experience to date. SPEAR is a single ring composed of 36 rectangular zero-gradient bending magnets and 54 quadrupoles as shown schematically in Fig. 1. Two arcs composed of standard modules connect two variable-dispersion, low-beta insertions. The rf system runs on the 40th harmonic of the orbit frequency. In operation,

Slq-pub-1215 (a) March 1973 Operating Results from Spear*

Initial operating experience witll the SLAC electronpositron storage ring SPEAR is described. A luminosity of 1.2 x 1031 cm-2 set-I has been achieved and two-beam interaction effects are described. A single-beam coherent instability, which can be suppressed either by control of the ring chromaticity or by feedback, has been observed. Current-dependent bunch lengthening and widening have been ob...

The Stanford Storage Ring -spear*

SPEAR (Stanford Positron-Electron Asymmetric Ring) consists of a single ring of magnets threaded by an aluminum vacuum chamber in which counterrotating beams of electrons and positrons will circulate. A high luminosity is achieved by making the beams collide in one of two long 71low-beta71 interaction regions. 132 The ring is composed of the two matched low-beta regions connected by nearly circ...

SPEAR II and PEP Klystron Parameters PEP Klystron Interaction Space Parameters SPEAR II PEP

The 125 kW CW klystrons to be described in the first part of this paper were specifically designed for energy upgrading of the electron-positron storage ring, SPEAR II, at SLAC. Four tubes are required with an efficiency greater than 50 percent. The operating frequency is 358.54 MHz. The gain is approximately 50 dB, the operating voltage is 41 kV and the microperveance is 0.7. The klystron must...

SLAC - PUB - 1434 . I June 1974 BEAM ENLARGEMENT BY MISMATCHING THE ENERGY - DISPERSION FUNCTION ?

The natural beutm size at the interaction point of a storage ring can be increased by operating the machine in a configuration in which the ener,T-dispersion function (7 function) is nonrepetitive in the periodic cells of the machine lattice. This mode of operation has been studied in SPEAR and is being considered in the PEP design. The usual method of beam enlargement in SPEAR has, been to oper...

Status of Digital Orbit Feedback for Spear

* Work supported in part by Department of Energy Contract DE-AC03-76SF00515 and Office of Basic Energy Sciences, Division of Chemical Sciences. ABSTRACT The present global orbit feedback system for SPEAR can adjust the electron beam position with a cycle time of 5 s. In addition, 50 Hz analog local servos stabilize the vertical photon beam position at monitors situated in the ten SSRL beamlines...
